About CAT4 Practice
CAT4 Practice is a free website for parents whose child is taking CAT4, the Cognitive Abilities Test. It has practice questions with detailed explanations, guides to what the test is and what its scores mean, and a glossary of the words on the report.
Who runs it
CAT4 Practice was developed by educators passionate about helping children to succeed academically.
We built it because so much of what is written about CAT4 online is wrong or misleading. We wanted one place where a parent can find out what CAT4 really is.

Why it is free
We have put a lot of work into this site, and we want that work to help as many parents as possible. So everything on it is free, and nothing on it is for sale. You do not need an account, and you never give your name or email (unless you choose to use our Contact Us form).
How we check what we publish
We aim to be the most accurate source of information about CAT4 on the internet.
- Facts come from their original source wherever possible: GL Assessment's own guides, the government's own numbers and published research. We do not take facts from other CAT4 websites.
- Every page is checked. Each fact is checked against its source, and experienced educators review what we publish.
- Every practice question is checked. Each one is written to match GL's own description of that type of question. Then it is solved more than once, each time without seeing the answer we marked, to make sure it has one right answer and no second answer that could also be called right.
- Each guide shows the date it was last updated. That date changes only when the guide's words change.
Before you trust CAT4 practice questions on any website, check a few of the answers yourself. If you think one of our answers is wrong, please tell us using our contact form.
What the site counts
The site counts how its pages are used, and which answers are chosen in the practice questions, so that we can improve the pages and the questions. The counting is completely anonymous and cannot be traced back to an individual user. The counts stay with us and are shared with no one.
JavaScript is off in this browser, so nothing is counted.
